Strongate Cottage in Dorset

A privilege to stay in a thatched cottage in a peaceful location surrounded by nature. A joy to be greeted by hens outside the door every morning. They were very entertaining. Tess a friendly and helpful host. Dog friendly which much appreciated. South Dorset coast area never fails to disappoint.

Warm, cozy and comfortable. Home from home. We stayed with our border terrier and Tessa had even left towels by the front door to rub her down after walks which was most thoughtful and something we had not experienced before. It makes good sense and helps keep the carpets in good order. Lovely to see the chickens, geese and ducks roaming freely around the yard. Delicious eggs! Would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful and tranquil stay to escape traffic and the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Good location to explore the beaches of the Jurassic coast and beyond.

One of the best places we’ve ever stayed. Strongate View is a cosy apartment, set in beautiful rural views. Tessa has created a comfy and clean place, with plenty of leaflets, games, maps and recommendations for the local area. Solwayash is a great place to stay to explore all of Dorset, and even go further afield. Close to Bridport for the markets and eclectic shops, and also West Bay and Lyme Regis for gorgeous coastline and beaches. What more could you want?! Would recommend to anyone, and we’ll be staying again!

We only stayed for 1 night as I was competing in an Ironman competition in Weymouth. It was peaceful, beautiful and easy to find. Tess was very responsive to messages, really helpful, makes me want to come back to actually explore the area further!

Fantastic stay in a well equipped, clean apartment with the most incredible view. Lovely, helpful host. Within easy reach of Bridport, which has so much to offer. Highly recommend. My children loved the stay as well, in particular the nearby field and the cream tea on arrival!

Quiet, picturesque and rural location, perfect for kids to run around, explore, and watch the animals. Very friendly host, great communication. Can recommend.

The cottage not only lived up to but far exceeded our expectations. Pictures cannot fully capture the charm and tranquility of the cottage nor the care that has been put into making it homey and welcoming. Also, Tessa is absolutely lovely and a fountain of helpful advice. We will for sure be coming back.

Thank you for a memorable stay. We particularly enjoyed the spectacular view and appreciated the thoughtfulness of having a cream tea waiting for us when we arrived after a long drive.

Delicious scones and cream when we arrived. Caravan is well equipped. Lots to do in the area, and a lovely tranquil location to come back to after a day out and sit and chill by the fire pit. Thanks Tess

Prima verblijf, alles wat je nodig hebt en goede communicatie. Fantastisch uitzicht maar helaas geen buitenzitje om er van te genieten.

Had a great time at this lovely house. It has a beautiful view, a clean view, and a Cosy bedroom as explained. Loved the scone sets a lot. Definitely recommend to friends who visit the area.

It was magical – we loved everything about it! A beautiful location, with an idyllic thatched cottage in an English country garden, with geese and chickens running around – it was so quintessentially English! We have stayed at many cottages over the years, but this was really special – and Tess was lovely, so kind and helpful. So thank you!

Wir waren mit unseren zwei kleinen Mädels (3 und 1 Jahr) sehr spät abends angereist. Tess blieb lange wach und half uns dabei das Cottage zu finden und gut anzukommen. Wir sind ihr dafür sehr dankbar. Wir hatten während unseres Aufenthalts totale Privatsphäre, wussten aber, dass wir uns jederzeit hätten an sie wenden können.
Es ist ein liebevoll gestaltetes Cottage und der Garten ist wirklich wundervoll. Es waren regelmäßig Eichhörnchen und viele Vögel zu sehen. In naher Umgebung waren auch zwei Kuhweiden, die wir regelmäßig besuchten. Alles in allem sehr ländlich, idyllisch und privat. Man erreicht mit dem Auto in ca. 20 Minuten die Jurassic Coast. In Bridport konnten wir uns gut mit Lebensmitteln eindecken und es gibt nette Pubs und vieles mehr. Wir würden die Unterkunft auf jeden Fall weiterempfehlen und wieder besuchen. Vielen Dank an Tess für den tollen Urlaubsort!

We had a great stay at Tessa’s. View was incredible, especially in the early morning and sunset. There’s a great farmers’ market nearby, and the drive to Bridport was quick and easy to. Wonderful area, great pubs, and would love to visit again.

The apartment itself was very clean and we felt there was plenty of space. There’s a nice sofa to relax in the evening and the bathroom was great too.

Loved the apartment, beautiful views of the area from the apartment. Enjoyed the scones and definitely will return should we be in the area.
Also enjoyed the fresh eggs which we bght from Tessa. We only stayed a night as we were en route to Brixham.

Rural idyll and yet so close to West Bay, the coastal path. and many other beautiful places like Lyme Regis. We had a lovely few days in the orchard. The geese were definitely keeping an eye on us! Only 20 mins drive to go fishing at Abbotsbury. Great walk up Colmer’s hill near Symondsbury to see for miles around. The cabin was beautifully clean and well equipped. Tess was a really kind and thoughtful host. We highly recommend this little corner of West Dorset and hope to return one day soon.
